What is the function of a memory pointer?

Analogue torque device models such as F, DB, CDB-S, T, FTD-S, ATG/BTG, and TM have a needle, or pointer, to indicate the torque value during measurements. The needle moves during a Push Up action. The name “memory pointer” comes from the fact that even when the torque force is released, friction at the point of contact causes the pointer to remain (through “memory”) at peak torque.

[Example: Torque gauge ATG24CN-S]

Left: Side memory pointer (on ATG24CN,ATG24CN-S) Right: Top memory pointer (only on ATG24CN-S)
